First hour: Local woman walks every street in the City of Rochester
Second hour: Exploring Rochester LGBTQ landmarks
You can say you love your city, but how much do you really know it? A local woman named Amy Crossed decided she was going to walk every single street in Rochester. This involved maps, patience, and planning. Now that she's done it, we'll sit down with Crossed to discuss what she experienced and learned. It's a reminder to all the things we're missing, even though they might be just a few blocks away.
Then in our second hour, do you know the story of Stonewall? Many Americans don't, even though it's become a national monument, and a tremendously important place in the gay rights movement. The Landmark Society is getting ready to host a community meeting to identify landmarks of significance in the Rochester LGBTQ community. We'll discuss possible Rochester LGBTQ landmarks, and we'll explore the history of Stonewall as well. Our guests:
- Larry Francer, associate director of preservation for The Landmark Society of Western New York
- Evelyn Bailey, chair of the Shoulders to Stand On Program of the Gay Alliance of the Genesee Valley
- John Cullen, assistant director of the Susan B. Anthony Center at the University of Rochester, and director of diversity and inclusion at the Clinical and Translational Science Institute at the University of Rochester Medical Center
