First hour: XL Love
Second hour: Discussion of police action
In our first hour, we welcome NPR contributor Sarah Varney. Her new book is called XL Love, and in it, she writes about the challenges faced by obese people. In particular, Varney targets love and intimacy.
In our second hour, we discuss police, tactics, and what constitutes an appropriate response to violent situations. In the wake of Ferguson, many Americans are discussing what they want and expect from their local police department. When is it appropriate to use military-style gear? We'll welcome a panel that includes two people who have served in local law enforcement, and we'll hear from an attorney who has handled many cases involving police using strong weaponry. In studio:
Professor Mark Concordia
Roberts Wesleyan College, Department of Criminal Justice
Director Criminal Justice Administration Program
Professor Concordia spent 13 years with the FBI Joint Terrorism Task Force, worked in corrections, federal law enforcement, and local law enforcement (Greece PD).
Professor Marvin Stepherson
Roberts Wesleyan College
Professor Stepherson has helped develop a curriculum for an Ethic and Social Diversity course at RWC in the Criminal Justice Administration program. He recently retired from RPD after many years of dedicated service to some of the most challenged neighborhoods in Rochester.
David Morabito, attorney
Mr. Morabito has represented hundreds of clients in cases challenging the decisions and response of local police forces.
