Coming Up On Connections: Friday, February 19th

First hour: Unleashed: The Pet Show

Second hour: Breast cancer screening, diagnosis and treatment

In our first hour, it's Unleashed: The Pet Show. This episode is all about cats: we'll talk about feline health, behavior, and personalities. We welcome Dr. Peggy Staderman of All Cats Care Center, and Dr. Elizabeth Ferderbar of Greece Animal Hospital, who will answer your pet questions -- dogs included.

Plus, is your cat trying to kill you? It may sound like a strange question, but it was the basis of a new study and the authors say the results were highly misinterpreted. We'll explore the research.

And, experts say 30 percent of cats over the age of three have undiagnosed health issues. WXXI's Beth Adams speaks to a veterinarian about the importance of yearly check-ups for cats.

In our second hour, we discuss the new recommendations for breast cancer screening, as well as breast cancer diagnosis and treatment. Our guests:

  • Avice O'Connell, M.D., M.A., director of women's imaging and professor of clinical imaging sciences, UR Medicine
  • Lou Papa, M.D., primary care physician, Center for Primary Care - Olsan Medical Group; and professor of clinical medicine, UR Medicine
