Code Blue Alert Extended Through Friday Night

The Open Door Mission has extended its Code Blue Alert message for tonight, Thursday and Friday nights because the extreme cold poses a risk for hypothermia for those who are exposed to the elements for any length of time.

Assistant Director of Development, Chris Scribani, says it's been a tough week for staff and tenants at the facility.

And shelters are running a little low on items such as hats, gloves, hand warmers, thermal socks and thermal underwear.

Scribani says the items don't need to be new, and people can donate gently used items at the Open Door Mission at 156 Plymouth Avenue.

Scribani says tonight through Friday, the Open Door Mission will make available up to 30 additional beds for the homeless.

He says the outside should not be an option that people are forced to take.
