Coast Guard Issues Warning About Lake Ice
BUFFALO, N.Y. (AP) — With temperatures on the rise, the Coast Guard is recommending that people stay off the ice on Lake Erie, Lake Ontario and inland waterways.
The Coast Guard in Buffalo says this weekend's above-freezing temperatures and rain could weaken the ice that has been drawing ice fishermen and other outdoor enthusiasts.
Those who do venture out are urged to know the conditions, wear waterproof clothing and a life preserver and carry a whistle or cell phone. And the Coast Guard says not to go out on the ice alone.
