CMAC Tightens Security Procedures

Summer concerts likely won't be held this year at Constellation Brands-Marvin Sands Performing Arts Center.

Security at a number of venues around the country has been increased since last weekend's shooting at an Orlando nightclub, and now you can add CMAC in Canandaigua to that list.

Officials there say in addition to the searches of patrons and their bags that they already do, management will start using metal detector wands to help with the process.

Venue Director Chris Tuttle says CMAC and law enforcement had already been talking previously about using the wands, but the Orlando situation pushed that process forward.

He doesn't expect this to cause big delays for people attending events at CMAC.

"We'll have adequate security to make sure we get everybody in on time, but we would ask that the patrons help us out as best they can; any metal objects on the person…even small pocket knives, they should just leave those in the vehicle or leave them at home," Tuttle told WXXI News.

Tuttle also says occasionally there may be acts appearing at CMAC who don't want the wanding, and it's possible it won't be used at those events, but he says he’s confident in the usual screening procedures at CMAC to keep people safe.
