Clayton Whittemore Gets Max. Sentencing In Death Of Alexandra Kogut

TWC News

The Utica area man who was convicted of beating his girlfriend to death in her College at Brockport dorm room was given the maximum sentence at his sentencing Tuesday morning.

Clayton Whittemore was found guilty of second degree murder charges in May. He was convicted in the beating death of 18-year-old Alexandra Kogut in September of 2012 in her College at Brockport dorm room.

According to Time Warner Cable News, Kogut's mother Becky spoke at the sentencing about the night Alex was killed. She also said Whittemore didn't deserve to ever leave prison.

Whittemore also spoke at the sentencing. He apologized to Kogut's family, saying he never intended for her death to happen. He said he thinks about it every day, and he'll spend the rest of his life trying to make up for it.

Judge Doyle said two main items stood out in the case: the brutality of the crime, and when Whittemore could've gotten help for Kogut and did not.

The judge sentenced him to the maximum 25 years to life in prison.
