City to Receive Additional $20M in State Funding

Assembly Majority Leader Joe Morelle announced Rochester will receive an additional $20.7 million in capital aid for the next fiscal year.

Morelle says the money will be allocated to infrastructure improvement projects like repairing roads, bridges, and sidewalks. It will also go toward restoring the Blue Cross Arena roof and maintaining the Central Library, among other things.

"These are important to the city right now. They would have had to pay out of local dollars, which would have affected property tax payers. It would have added to their deficit, and this funding will alleviate a significant part of the funding gap that they have."

The money will be available to to city July 1st, but since it is capital aid, all projects need to meet specific state guidelines.
