The annual Xerox Rochester International Jazz Festival is just a few days away, and officials say the ongoing Inner Loop project shouldn't be an issue.
Mayor Lovely Warren says they hope to have temporary sidewalks on East Avenue and there's a possibility the bridge over the inner loop that is being replaced could be temporarily opened for pedestrian traffic.
"I believe from our engineering folks it's a possibility that we could have it temporarily opened and to have a walkway during the jazz festival," she said.
That bridge is to be replaced by an at-grade road.
Jazz Festival co-producer John Nugent told WXXI's Connections with Evan Dawson they were told the work would be done by the time the festival starts.
"We'd love it if cars could come up and down East Avenue, especially with roads being closed in and around main street and different parts of the inner loop area," he said.
City Engineer Jim McIntosh says although the contractor isn't required to do so, they're working hard to allow for car and foot traffic over the East Avenue bridge, which is being replaced.
"We'll definitely have the walkways in, and right now I'd say there's an 80 to 85 percent chance that we'll have a street in as well," he said.
The Jazz Festival starts June 24th.
