Members of the local faith-based community are mentoring some low-achieving, elementary kids in the city school district.
Browncroft Community Church volunteers are helping students at Rochester City School No. 33 how to spell their names, learn their "ABC's" and numbers.
Sarah Fitts-Romig, a kindergarten teacher at the school, says having the extra hands of help gives students a chance to catch up, "The children who need the help, extra support, can get it if they need it, and the children who are ready to move on to other things can also be pushed. So, everybody is challenged to their highest potential."
Fitts-Romig says her students are showing a drastic improvement with the volunteer help. Browncroft Community Church plans to continue its program next school year.
