Changes Ahead For The Finger Lakes Museum

There's been a change in plans for the new Finger Lakes Museum. The board of directors has voted to move the project from its proposed location in Keuka Lake State Park to the site of its Discovery Campus in Branchport. That is a 13 acre site the museum already owns located at the former Branchport Elementary School in Yates County.

Initially, that school was going to serve as the Discovery Campus, a research and education center which would have been an adjunct facility for the museum's main campus in the state park.

But officials say that during renovations, it became evident none of the classroom walls were built to handle the load, and those walls were removed resulting in a large open space. That's when museum board president John Adamski says officials started to look at other uses for the space.

Museum Executive Director Philip Lentini says the Branchport site will make it easier to raise money, which will accelerate the progress of the museum project.

The museum is also being rebranded "The Finger Lakes Museum & Aquarium."
