Celebrity's Medical Condition Hits "Home" for Local Patient

Many people may not have been familiar with the term "cardiomyopathy" until this week, when it was reported that country singer Randy Travis is in critical condition with the heart disease.

Cardiomyopathy is a weakening of the heart muscles, sometimes due to a viral infection. A patient awaiting a heart transplant at the University of Rochester Medical Center has been coping with cardiomyopathy for more than a decade.  Fred Knewstub is a retired math and special education teacher from Trumansburg.

Beth Adams joined WXXI as host of Morning Edition in 2012 after a more than two-decade radio career. She was the longtime host of the WHAM Morning News in Rochester. Her career also took her from radio stations in Elmira, New York, to Miami, Florida.
