Caroline Kennedy Helps Celebrate Rep. Slaughter's Support of the Arts
By Peter Iglinski
Rochester, NY – Caroline Kennedy headlined a fundraiser for Congresswoman Louise Slaughter at the Riverside Convention Center Sunday night.
The event had the added purpose of celebrating Slaughter's longstanding support of the arts.
Kennedy, who is herself an advocate of the arts, shared one of her favorite quotes from her father, President John Kennedy: "I look forward to an America which will not be afraid of grace and beauty, which commands respect , not only for its strength, but for its civilization, as well."
Kennedy praised Slaughter for understanding "the role of the arts in our communities and our civilization."
Kennedy says the arts bring both economic development and personal fulfillment.
Slaughter is co-chair of the Congressional Arts Caucus. She was also the first member of Congress to receive the Sidney R. Yates National Arts Advocacy Award, presented by the National Assembly of State Arts Agencies.
