Rochester Mayor Lovely Warren says people tell her they want to work, but don't know where to find a job. She says business owners often want to hire, but can't find the talent.

Wednesday, the mayor joined managers from the Rochester Americans and Rochester Works to announce a career fair at Blue Cross Arena from 1 pm to 4 pm on Friday, November 14.

“That's what the Rochester Amerks and Rochester Works are trying to do. By bringing a team together, companies who can give our residents - not just jobs - but careers that will last a lifetime."

Registered job seekers get a free ticket to that night's Amerks game.

Monroe County Executive Maggie Brooks says the Amerks represent the spirit of teamwork that helps job seekers and that Rochester Works offers a path toward an improved quality of life and career success.

"Rochester Works is the city/county collaboration that helps us, more than any other entity, develop our workforce of the future."

Peter Pecor, the Executive Director of Rochester Works says he knows it's hard to look for work. He expects this career fair to feature as many as 60 employers that have open jobs.

"Just the fact that it's at the Blue Cross Arena, I think is a real plus, and I think that's very unique. I think the Amerks and their thrust and their mission to provide some community service is gonna work out well."

Pecor hopes job seekers will also enjoy the free ticket to the evening's Amerks game, the night of the career fair, Friday, November 14.

Rob Kopacz, Vice President of Business Operations at the Rochester Americans, says his team wants to be a good community partner and believes the Blue Cross Arena might make a career fair more fun.

"You know, if you're unemployed, looking for work, you're not coming to an Amerks game, typically. So, we able to give them a ticket to the game, hopefully make things a little bit easier for them and at the same time help them find employment. If we can be a catalyst and put the two groups together, so be it."
