Canandaigua National Bank & Trust sending donations to Houston

As Hurricane Irma makes its way across Florida, people in Texas are still cleaning up after Harvey.

In response to that record flooding in Houston, Canandaigua National Bank & Trust is partnering with Leonard’s Express of Farmington to collect funds and distribute needed supplies to the affected area.

All 24 branches of Canandaigua National Bank will be collecting funds that will be donated directly to the Houston Food Bank for disaster relief. They are also donating physical items that will be sent to the Red Cross and Salvation Army.

Steve Martin, Senior Vice President of the Bank said it was a company wide desire to help that spawned the project.

"The humanity of this has struck dozens, all of our colleagues I would say. There was an urgency and a need to do something. So this really came from the ground up if you will. It wasn’t a corporate decision it came from my fellow colleagues."

Goods accepted include diapers, infant formula, baby powder, sunscreen and new towels and blankets among others.

Martin said it’s important to help others no matter where they are.

"You know really kind of a neighbor helping neighbor even though this is not our marketplace. Most folks in Houston may not even be able to pronounce or say Canandaigua or spell it for that matter. But it's really touched our colleagues and we hope it helps out in a small way."

Leonard’s Express donated a 53 foot 18-wheeler to deliver items.

Donations will be collected through Monday September 25th.
