Carlos Carballada has a new job.

He had served as the neighborhood and business development commissioner in Rochester, and was acting Mayor in 2011.

His background is with several local banks, including M & T, Central Trust and First National.

The Rochester Institute of Technology named Carballada the interim director of its Saunders Business School Center for Urban Entrepreneuriship. He replaces Delmonize Smith, who took Carballada's post with the city.

This is not Carballada's first work at RIT - he was the 2005 RIT Minett Professor—a one-year appointment which brings distinguished Rochester-area multicultural professionals to the RIT campus to share their knowledge and experience with students and faculty.

In a statement, RIT indicates it plans a national search for a permanent director to begin in July.
