Buffalo Marathon winners have Rochester area connections

The winners of the 2018 Buffalo Marathon were from the region. Tim Chichester of Hornell was the top men's finisher with a time of 2:18:06. Hornell is a Mt. Morris native.

Laura Anderson of Rochester was the first woman to cross the finish line at 2:57:06.

More than 7,000 people participated in the various races associated with this year's marathon. Local resident Steve Williams was one of them. He ran the full 26.2 mile course. It was his first-ever marathon.

"It's a great atmosphere where everyone comes together," Williams said. "It's really the spectators and volunteers who carry you through.

Some 1,500 volunteers were on hand to help out.

Proceeds from the Buffalo Marathon benefit several local charities. Over the past four years, the Buffalo Erie Marathon Foundation has contributed $270,000 such organizations as the Kevin Guest House, Roswell Park and the Police Athletic League.
