Brockport School District Voters Approve Budget In The Re-vote

The second time was the charm for the supporters of the Brockport School District budget.

The first time the nearly $79 million dollar spending plan went before voters in May, it was defeated by a vote of 625 in favor and 882 opposed.

But in this Tuesday’s voting, the plan was approved 764 in favor and 348 against, a more than 2-to-1 margin giving their approval.

One change this time around was that the district’s support staff union and the teachers’ union both came out in favor of the spending plan.

If the budget had been rejected again, it would have forced the district to adopt a contingency budget which would have forced the district to keep most spending at the past year’s spending level.

“I would like to thank our community for voting in favor of the 2016-17 proposed budget. The approved budget allows us to address key areas of growth to maximize student achievement. I am excited that we can move forward with planning for next year to realize our vision of graduating each student prepared for college or a career,” said Brockport School Supt. Lesli Myers.
