Brighton Police Chief Mark Henderson is retiring

Brighton Police Chief Mark Henderson is retiring.

Town officials announced Thursday that his retirement will be effective as of January 30th.

Henderson has been Brighton Chief for the last six years; he's been with the department for 30 years. Henderson became chief in 2010, replacing Thomas Voelkl, who retired after 17 years as chief.

Henderson will be joining the University of Rochester in what's described as a 'senior level management position.'

Brighton Supervisor Bill Moehle says that Henderson has had "an extraordinary career in Brighton, " and has been committed to effective community policing. During Henderson's tenure, the department began using body-worn cameras for officers, and also created a community engagement initiative to increase interactions with the Brighton community.
