Brighton Gets Improvements For Access To The Canal

The Town of Brighton has gained more infrastructure to provide public access to the Erie Canal.

Anthony J. Costello & Son Development worked with the town and the New York State Canal Corporation in the opening of  "The Reserve Boat Dock"  and "Canoe/Kayak Launch."

It will create two new destinations for public access to the canal. There is also a 120-foot boat dock and other facilities as part of a $1.2 million investment in improvements along the canal in Brighton between Winton Road and East Henrietta Road.

Costello says the canal was dredged to create water depth so that for the first time large boats can dock in Brighton since the canal started flowing through the year nearly a century ago. The state Canal Corporation also provided $224,000 in supplemental funding for the improvements.

The Reserve is a private housing development, but the dock can be accessed by the general public.
