Boost for efforts to preserve the white deer at the Seneca Army Depot

Seneca White Deer Inc.

The effort to preserve the white deer herd at the former Seneca Army Depot  is getting another financial boost.

Representatives of Heron Hill Winery have given $4,500 to the nonprofit group set up to preserve the deer.

Last May, Heron Hill released 250 cases of wine under a ‘Save the White Deer‘ label with proceeds going to the Seneca White Deer organization.

The $4,500 comes from the sale of that new Riesling-Chardonnay blend.

7,000 acres of the former depot were purchased last June by a local businessman, Earl Martin, who owns a dairy equipment company. He wants to preserve the white deer and also promote tourism in that area.
