Bomb squad called out to a Rochester building; some evacuations

Spectrum News

Rochester fire officials have released some more information about a situation that brought out the police department bomb squad on Monday night. Reportedly it began with someone who walked up to a firehouse at Ridgeway and Dewey and said there was a smell of gasoline at 401 Ridgeway.

That is a vacant building.  Fire officials say just before midnight haz-mat teams came in to help and remove the gasoline and put it in a drum for safe disposal.

The road was reopened around 4;45 a.m. and people who lived in neighboring homes and had been evacuated are now allowed back in their houses.

Other details are still under investigation.
