Blue-Green Algae Still Showing Up On Conesus Lake

Livingston County Health Dept.

Livingston County health officials say that blue-green algae blooms recently were found along the east shore and the southwest short of Conesus Lake. The blooms were first identified a week ago near the southern shore.

Blooms occur when algae multiply very rapidly over a short period of time, usually in calm, warm water.

Officials say contact with the algae may result in effects such as itching, rashes, fever, headache, upper respiratory symptoms, vomiting and diarrhea. Residents are advised not to drink or use the lake water for cooking and don't come into direct contact with water that is discolored or has scum on the surface.

But they say the public water supply is safe for drinking.
