The bitterly cold weather will continue through the day Tuesday, with a wind chill warning for much of our region continuing into effect until 6:00 p.m. The high Tuesday will only be in the single numbers above zero, with the wind chill more than 20 below zero.

There is a lake snow advisory for Monroe and Livingston Counties until 7:00 p.m. with three to five inches of accumulation possible in some areas, but the heaviest snow continues to be to the south and west.

There is a blizzard warning in counties that include Genesee, Wyoming and Erie Counties until early Wednesday morning, with a foot or more of snow in many places and extremely poor visibility. Governor Cuomo declared a 'state of emergency' for most of Western NY including the Rochester area as of Monday evening.

The temperatures should slowly moderate toward the end of the week, with highs in the teens tomorrow, and into the 40s on the weekend.

Many area schools are closed on Tuesday, including Rochester. You can get  school closing information by clicking on the "Closings" tab at the top of our web page. Closings are courtesy of Time Warner Cable News.

At the Rochester Airport there were numerous flight cancelations on Tuesday morning, especially to main of the “hub” airports around the country, although some flights were getting through. You can check the status of flights at the Monroe County website.

The City of Rochester is operating its “Heat Sweep” plan at just three locations on Tuesday until further notice. In partnership with the Red Cross, the city will provide temporary emergency shelter at these facilities:

--Adams Street Community Center: 85 Adams St.

--Campbell Street Community Center: 524 Campbell St.

--David F.Gantt Community Center: 700 North St.
