The Birth of South Sudan

WXXI News launches the first installment of Schools for South Sudan. The special project focuses on the unique connection between Rochester and the world's youngest nation. A handful of area nonprofits are on the ground in South Sudan building schools, health clinics and providing clean water in remote villages. Their work is being supported by funds raised in the Greater Rochester area.

WXXI's Hélène Biandudi Hofer was in South Sudan reporting on the efforts of one organization with a mission to build schools in war-torn villages. The 6-part series, Schools for South Sudan, airs Thursdays at 8pm on Need to Know Rochester beginning January 23rd.
