Repairs are underway on the Irondequoit Bay Bridge which carries Route 104 from Irondequoit to Webster. That according to the State Transportation Department which says work on the steel infrastructure began last week, when materials needed for the repairs were delivered.
Crews are placing steel cover plates underneath four of the beams to provide additional strength. Other steel elements that showed signs of deterioration are also being replaced as part of the work.
The DOT says the work is going as planned and the bridge remains safe for all traffic. The outside travel lanes that have been closed since October are due to reopen by the end of March.
