Batavia teen's toaster invention could win him $250k

Andrew Young

A teenager from Batavia is in the final round of a nationwide invention competition.

The Frito-Lay "Dreamvention" contest asked kids to create something to solve everyday problems. 14 year old Andrew Young's "Toaster Shooter” is now in the running to win $250,000; up against four other teen inventors.

"I saw my grandma burn herself on a toaster, so I thought of shooting it out so you wouldn’t have to stick your fingers in it."

The toaster is tilted to the side and has bigger springs, so when your toast is done it shoots into the air and falls onto your plate.

Andrew said if he wins the grand prize, he would save that money for college. He wants to go to MIT to become an astronaut.

Andrew’s father Andrew Young Sr said he and his wife weren’t surprised their son made it this far in the contest, he’s been drawing up inventions since he was even younger.

But they were surprised that he entered the competition all by himself.

“We didn’t know anything about it until we started getting calls from the sponsoring company that he was even involved in it."

The competition is voting based, you can find links to Andrew’s invention and the contest on the Dreamvention website.
