Autistic Teen Invited To Run With RPD Recruits After Last Month's Incident

TWC News

Rochester Police officers are reaching out to a Syracuse area teen who was the victim of an alleged assault last month at Cobb's Hill Park.

The incident involving a non-verbal autistic teenager on October 14th has garnered national attention.

According to his mother and eyewitnesses, 15-year-old Chase Coleman was participating in a cross country run at Cobb's Hill Park, when a middle-aged, Rochester-area man got out of his car, approached Coleman during the race and shoved him to the ground.

Coleman is a member of his Syracuse area high school’s cross country team.  Since the incident in Rochester he has quit the team.

Now, Rochester Police, who have been investigating the reported attack, have offered to send a police cruiser to Syracuse to bring Coleman to Rochester to run with police recruits.

RPD says it is also looking forward to having its police officers and recruits connect with Chase on a personal level to further raise the awareness of autism.

According to Syracuse.com, Coleman’s family has not scheduled a trip to Rochester yet because they are working to organize a fun run in Chase’s honor at his Syracuse high school.
