Austrian Rail Company To Locate Manufacturing Operations In Rochester

Rochester is getting a new manufacturer.  The company is called Seisenbacher Rail Interiors, and it’s an Austrian company that wants to expand into the U.S.  market, and as part of that move will make Rochester its home base for manufacturing operations here.

Governor Andrew Cuomo says the company is investing about $1.7 million in putting up a facility on Humboldt Street and they plan to create 59 jobs over five years.

This news comes on the heels of the announcement last week that a contract between Alstom in Hornell and Amtrak has been finalized, to produce rail cars and potentially create hundreds of jobs.

Greater Rochester Enterprise helped bring Seisenbacher here, and Chief Operating Officer Matt Hurlbutt says this part of the country has a good history in being home to companies that make rail products.

“A lot of it is tied to the high population in the northeast part of the country and the significant population who is using rail up and down the East Coast,” Hurlbutt told WXXI News.

Hurlbutt says the move by Seisenbacher to Rochester will have a spinoff effect, helping the local economy in other ways.

“The manufacturing jobs also have a multiplier effect, the fact that they’re working with several local firms as they get up and running is good not only for Seisenbacher but other companies in the area.”

Empire State Development, the state’s economic development agency, will provide Seinsenbacher  up to $600,000  in tax credits in return for the job creation commitment.
