SYRACUSE, N.Y. (AP) _ Attendance is up at the New York State Fair in its first week.
The fair kicked off its 12-day run last Thursday in Syracuse.
The Post-Standard of Syracuse reports that attendance surged Wednesday with more than 65,000 people attending throughout the day. That's up by more than 20,000 people compared to last year, helping bring the seven-day attendance totals up from 2013.
Officials attribute the surge in attendance Wednesday to good weather and evening shows by Carrie Underwood and Joan Jett.
The fair runs through Labor Day
