Arctic freeze continues into at least part of the weekend

Spectrum News

There is another day of this arctic weather for much of our region, before things moderate a bit early next week.

The high on Friday got up to around 5 degrees, and the wind chill factor was down to about -20 at times.

Meteorologist Josh Nichols says the wind chill warning continues into early Sunday morning, with a daytime high Saturday of only two degrees, and wind chills of 25 below zero or colder.

“Lake effect snows continue to pile up, already parts of Wayne County have seen more than a foot of snow and by the time we get to lunchtime (Saturday), many spots along the 104 corridor and into central Wayne County will see yet another foot of snow.”

The lake effect snow warning for Monroe, Orleans and Wayne Counties has now been extended until 10:00 p.m. on Saturday.

Wayne County Sheriff Barry Virts issued a travel advisory late Friday afternoon until 7:00 a.m. on Saturday. It does not restrict travel, but is a warning to drivers that hazardous conditions may exist.

There will be another few inches of snow in the immediate Rochester area on Friday night and a few inches of snow in some spots on Saturday.

City of Rochester R-Centers will continue to operate  Saturda, as warming centers for those needing temporary shelter.

City R-Centers will be open normal hours tomorrow, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. The Gantt Center, 700 North Street, will stay open until 7:30 p.m.

Sunday , we’re expecting partly sunny skies later in the day with a  high of 25. On Monday, there could be some mixed precipitation with a high of 36.
