Another mayoral candidate in Rochester

Spectrum News

There’s another candidate for Rochester’s mayoral election this year. On Sunday, Lori Thomas, a retired city school teacher, said she will run as an independent candidate.

Thomas told Spectrum News that she feels “Democrats control the poverty in the city and Republicans control wealth in the suburbs,” and she says, “We the people have to control ourselves.”

Thomas believes there is a large enough tax base to create a better Rochester if the money is not going to “political pandering” and “corporate control.”

Thomas says her platform also includes encouraging home ownership, community gardens, and police reform.

She faces a field that includes the incumbent Mayor, Lovely Warren, Monroe County Legislator and former police chief James Sheppard, Rachel Barnhart, and Alex White of the Green Party who also wants to seek Democratic support.
