Among Big 5 Districts, RCSD Ranks Rock Bottom in State Test Score Results

State test results are now out and at the bottom of the list among the state's Big 5 Districts is the Rochester City School District.

Just 5% of students passed in English Language Arts (ELA) and math in Rochester. Overall, 31% of New York students in grades 3-8 passed the ELA and math exams this past April.

This year’s state tests are the first to measure the Common Core Learning Standards adopted by New York back in 2010. More than 45 states have adopted the Common Core which the State Education Department calls a more rigorous set of learning standards intended to prepare students for college, career, and a competitive global economy.

RCSD Superintendent, Bolgen Vargas, is holding a press conference for reporters this afternoon regarding the District’s results.
