Affordable Housing Project For Rochester's JOSANA Neighborhood

New York State and Rochester area officials on Wednesday marked the completion of Stadium Estates in Rochester.

That's an $11 million project in the JOSANA neighborhood on the northwest side which includes 45 units of affordable housing.

The Charles Settlement House and Cornerstone Group are among the local agencies involved in the project.

The CEO for Charles Settlement House, Scott Benjamin, says these homes fulfill a real need for affordable housing in the city as well as improving that neighborhood.  The homes take the place of older structures that were torn down.

“We were going in on what formerly had been houses that had been torn down and putting in new houses in their place where other houses still existed on the blocks, and so we designed this project in a way that it upgrades the housing a great deal but it also blends with homes that are already there,” Benjamin told WXXI News.

And Benjamin hopes they can build on this project in the not too distant future.

“So if things happen the way we’d like, we could potentially break ground next year on another phase that would help us take this project and expand it north and west within the JOSANA neighborhood.”

The project was financed with the help of NYS tax credits and grants and help from the City of Rochester and the Federal Home Loan Bank of New York.
