Advocating for a Living Wage in Rochester

A group of citizens is addressing the root causes of poverty and organizing for a living wage for everyone in the Rochester community.

"Wedge Wage: Organizing for a Living Wage" will be held at 7 tonight at the German House.

Organizer Alison Clarke with St. Andrew's Parish, says while many people have found employment and are working now, many still can't make ends meet.

She says they'll discuss the problem of underemployment in this community and the systemic roots of poverty.

The event will feature stories from workers, and guest speakers Elizabeth Nicolas, staff attorney with the Wage Justice Project of the Empire Center, and the Reverend William Wilkinson from Trinity Emmanuel Presbyterian Church.

Clarke says people are encouraged to ask questions at tonight's event about what they can do at the grass-roots level to help bring about a living wage.

"Wedge Wage, Organizing for a Living Wage" starts at 7 at the German House on Gregory Street.
