An Active Flu Season So Far For Monroe County

www.blackchristiannews.com

The Monroe County Department of Health says there are a relatively high number of cases of the flu reported so far this season.

As of last week, just under 500 cases had been confirmed. One hundred of those patients were hospitalized.

Health Department spokesman John Ricci says we had about 100 flu cases last year at this time, and 300 confirmed cases by late December, 2012.

"What remains to be seen is will we, in a month or so, start to level out, or will it continue at high levels for a number of months. That's not something that anyone can credibly predict."

This year's flu vaccine is not a perfect match for the all of the viruses now circulating. Ricci says that is likely at least one reason for the high level of activity so far.
