500 Seasonal Postal Jobs Being Filled Locally

The U.S Postal Service is hiring a lot of seasonal employees in the Rochester area.  The agency is looking for about 500 part-time people to help them get through the holiday rush through the end  of the year.

Postal Service spokesperson Karen Mazurkiewicz says what’s driving the need for seasonal workers is mainly their package delivery business.

“We’re seeing double-digit increases every year as more people are shopping on the internet..."

Many of the positions are located at a postal facility on Lyell Avenue and others will be at the Jefferson Road operation in Henrietta.

These are part-time jobs, you don't need prior experience, but Mazurkiewicz says you do need a clean work history.

“Obviously you have to have a good work history, there is a background check, of course we do drug screenings and things like that, so even though it’s a seasonal employee we still are pretty rigorous in our testing to make sure we’re getting the right kind of person who’s going to have exposure to a lot of mail.”

The job applications for Postal Support Employee Mail Processing Clerks are being accepted from September 2nd through September 7th. There are about 150 of those jobs, and they pay $16.06 per hour.

Job applications for Casual Mail Handler, which pay $12 per hour, are being accepted from September 9th through September 14th.  There are around 350 of those positions being filled.
