5 Inducted Into The Rochester Music Hall Of Fame

There are five new members of the Rochester Music Hall of fame. About 1800 people showed up at Kodak Hall at the Eastman Theatre to welcome in:

--Jazz bassist Ron  Carter

--Henry Juszkiewicz, CEO of the Gibson Guitar Company

--jazz keyboardist Gap Mangione

--Singer and actor William Warfield

--Wilmer Alexander Jr. & The Dukes

One of the more emotional moments of the evening happened when Wilmer Alexander Jr. was brought onstage in a wheelchair to a standing ovation. Alexander has been dealing with a number of health issues.

Performers on Sunday night included Chris Daughtry with Rochester’s Elvio Fernandes, blues rocker Pat Travers, along with the band Prime Time Funk.

Thomas Warfield, the nephew of Thomas Warfield, and Gap Mangione and his big band performed. Gap now joins his brother Chuck Mangione who was inducted into the Hall in 2012.

The first Douglas Lowry Music Award, named for the late director of the Eastman School of Music, went to Sage Melcher of Honeoye Falls, a senior at Allendale Columbia. That award goes to a high school student who will go on to study music in college. Melcher is going to go to SUNY Purchase.

WXXI's Julia Figueras gave the introduction for the Douglas Lowry award.
