3 People Injured In Chemical Explosion At UR

University of Rochester

Official say that three University of Rochester grad students were injured following a small chemical explosion on campus on Saturday afternoon. It happened in the basement of  Hutchison Hall, which houses the school's chemistry department.

The students were injured when some chemicals were mixed. Their injuries are said to include acidic burns, but are not life-threatening. They were all taken to Strong Hospital for treatment.

The students names are: Jared Kneebone, Kathlyn Fillman, and Malik Al-Afyouni.

A hazardous materials team was also sent to the building which was evacuated as the building was cleared of fumes.

The U of R is celebrating Meliora Weekend,  its homecoming activities.
