Two Monroe County teens joined the US Freestyle ski team; bring them closer to Olympic dreams.

Monday County Executive Maggie Brooks recognized Harrison Smith and Morgan Schild, both 16, for their accomplishments and bringing attention to our area’s skiing attractions.

Smith says it took years to achieve his goals in aerials.

“I don't learn triple back flips my first day. There's a progression: single back flip, single back flip with a twist, and then doubles, and then eventually triples, and maybe quads,”

Buzz Schild, Morgan’s father, explains the pride she brought her coaches, her family, and Monroe County during recent mogul competitions in other states.

“She's leading! He's an unknown girl from Upstate New York, who led after the first run. I think the trivia question that night was, "Where is Bristol Mountain?"”

Four of the 5 members of the team are from New York State. Both Schild and Smith are long time Bristol Mountain freestyle athletes.
