Carlet reports on news topics relevant to the community and helps to create and develop story ideas to produce comprehensive and compelling news stories. Prior to joining WXXI, she worked at RNews as a Desk Assistant. Carlet earned her Associate’s degree in Communications & Media Arts from Monroe Community College in 2004, and received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Communications/Journalism at St. John Fisher College in 2006. Her work has been honored by the New York State chapter of the Associated Press.

Locals Protest IRS Scandal

There were a handful of people protesting outside of the Internal Revenue Service office building in downtown Rochester on Tuesday.

The rally is part of a series of protests nationwide in response to the IRS admitting that the agency targeted tea party and conservative organizations for additional scrutiny. That included audits and invasive reviews of their tax-exempt applications.

Suburban School Budget Votes On Tuesday

Suburban voters head to the polls Tuesday to decide on their district's school budget and elect school board members.

The executive director of the Monroe County School Board Association, Jody Siegle, says budget discussions have been difficult this year. She says that's because of rising rising pension and benefits costs, limited state aid and the state's new property tax cap.

Greece Police Dept Names K-9 After Fallen Firefighter Lt. Michael Chiapperini

K-9 Unit dog "Chip" and his handler Officer Jeff Phillips at the Greece Town Hall.

"As of today, Chip is back on patrol."

The Greece Police Department is celebrating the life of fallen West Webster fire fighter Michael Chiapperini.

That's by naming its new K-9 "Chip". Officer Jeff Phillips will be the canine's handler.

A Local Fallen Soldier Posthumously Promoted

Senator Chuck Schumer stopped in Rochester Thursday to help honor a local soldier who died in combat. Theodore Glende was killed in Afghanistan last July while helping wounded soldiers during combat. Schumer says he worked with the Department of Defense to have Glende posthumously promote from Private First Class to Specialist.

RACF's Giving Initiative Releases New Book

A new book highlighting the racial and ethnic disparities in Rochester is now out on select store shelves.

The African American Giving Initiative of the Rochester Area Community Foundation released the "The State of Black Rochester 2013: Education + Employment = Equity" on Thursday. It's molded after the National Urban League's State of Black America.

Imagine RIT Festival Set for May 4th

The community will be able to enjoy some creative and innovative festivities on the RIT campus this weekend.

The college's annual event includes more than 400 interactive exhibits and performances throughout the Henrietta campus.  

"You don't really realize what some of these young bright minds are doing today," explains the chairman of the festival Dr. Barry Culhane.  "You'll walk away feeling good about the American education system and our country and what we're going to be contributing to society for years to come.

Flower City Challenge Remembers Boston

Thousands participate in the Flower City Challenge.

More than 2600 people were  part of  Sunday's 4th annual Flower City Challenge. The bombings at the Boston Marathon were on the minds of many of the runners, some of whom either took part in that race, or know people who did. 

The song "Sweet Caroline," now a staple of Red Sox games, was played right before the start of the race.

The 13.1 mile course went through a number of Rochester streets. It started at the Broad Street bridge downtown.

Detour Plans for Amazing Spider-Man 2 Filming

The red highlighted Street is Main Street, the primary street closure to vehicular traffic. The yellow highlighted roads are open to local traffic only. Police are allowing local cars and pedestrians to enter on those streets to park or have access into buildings on that particular block.

The City of Rochester and Regional Greater Rochester Transit Authority outlined traffic plans for street closures during the filming of The Amazing Spider-Man 2 in downtown starting on Tuesday, April 30th.

"You know, you can't have a good time without putting up with a little inconvenience," says Major Tom Richards, in an effort to lighten mood over significant traffic detours and delays that will accompany a portion of the movie being filmed here.
