Different is the "New Normal"

A film series created to address the social stigmas of mental illness kicks-off its 5th season on Tuesday.

The Reel Mind Film & Theatre Series features films on mental illness, addiction and brain disorders while providing a message of hope that recovery is possible. Each film is followed by a question and answer session led by noted community psychiatrists, consumers and visiting filmmakers. The series begins with the screening of "In a Dream" at the Memorial Art Gallery.

Buffalo Bills' G-M Stepping Down

ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. (AP)  Buddy Nix is stepping down as the Buffalo Bills general manager, the team has announced.

Nix will remain with the team in a new role as special assistant, the Bills said in a release issued on Monday.

The Bills did not immediately announce Nix's replacement. The team has spent much of the offseason grooming assistant GM Doug Whaley to take over.

The move did not come as a surprise, and comes after Nix oversaw the draft in which the Bills opened by selecting quarterback EJ Manuel.

Gas Prices Expected To Be Lower Than Last Summer

(NPR & WXXI News) Drivers will find this summer's gas prices are lower than last year's, the result of a spike in crude oil production. Government forecasters say a gallon of regular gasoline will cost about $3.50 this summer — a slide of more than 10 cents from last year.

Energy Department analysts say "the regular gasoline price will average $3.53 per gallon over the summer," . "The annual average regular gasoline retail price is projected to decline from $3.63 per gallon in 2012 to $3.50 per gallon in 2013 and to $3.39 per gallon in 2014."

Ban On Smoking Includes More Places In State Parks

(AP) — Smoking will be banned in more places within New York state parks this summer.

The governor's office announced Friday that the state is expanding the number of smoke-free areas at state parks, pools and historic sites, including many of New York's popular beaches.

Gov. Andrew Cuomo says residents should be able to enjoy the outdoors "free of pollution from secondhand smoke."

The new rules vary from park to park, so the state has posted a list online of places where smoking is banned All state parks in New York City are also entirely smoke-free.

Diverse Class Welcomed To City Fire Dept.

Rochester city officials have welcomed 21 new firefighters to the ranks in what they say is the most diverse of any class in the history of the department. Minorities and women make up 57 percent of the class.

The recruitment was the result of a comprehensive campaign to improve diversity in the Department.  It involved the Administration and City Council and included the support of 11 different city churches.

Greece Police Dept Names K-9 After Fallen Firefighter Lt. Michael Chiapperini

K-9 Unit dog "Chip" and his handler Officer Jeff Phillips at the Greece Town Hall.

"As of today, Chip is back on patrol."

The Greece Police Department is celebrating the life of fallen West Webster fire fighter Michael Chiapperini.

That's by naming its new K-9 "Chip". Officer Jeff Phillips will be the canine's handler.

Brooks Fires Monroe Community Hospital Director

Monroe County Executive Maggie Brooks has fired the executive director of Monroe Community Hospital.

Todd Spring was removed from that job Friday after a state report accused him of mistreating a patient there by taking his wheelchair away.

Brooks says she fired Spring after an independent review of hospital practices and procedures. She says it is apparent that Spring did not live up to her standards for excellence in care at the county nursing home.

Guilty Verdict In Rochester Murder Case

A Rochester man has been found guilty in the murder of a city teen.  21 year old DeVonte Lively was found guilty Friday afternoon of second degree murder in the death of 17 year old Larie Butler.

She was an East High School student and also Lively's friend and distant relative. Lively was accused of killing Butler at her grandmother's Irondequoit home in March of last year, and then dumping the body in a neighbor's pool.

Lively faces up to 25 years to life in prison when he is sentenced in June.
