Plea To Help Not-For-Profit Agencies

Rochester, NY – Representatives from numerous not-for-profit agencies, are urging the public to dig a bit deeper into their pocketbooks this holiday season so that these agencies can provide assistance to those less fortunate.
Alan Harris, President of the Council of Agency Executives, said the lack of state funding for not-for-profit agencies have put these organizations in a perilous situation
Funding went from $500,000 to zero. Harris added that some not-for-profit agencies have been forced to layoff staff.

Rochester's Unemployment Rate Increases

Rochester, NY – New statistics from the State Department of Labor indicates the Rochester area now has one of the largest number of unemployed in the state. 28-thousand people were out of a job in November. Only Buffalo and New York City had more. November's unemployment rate stood at 5 percent, compared to 3.7 percent a year ago. Rochester has also seen a 1.8 percent decline in the number of manufacturing jobs, one of the higher declines in the state.

Shot Fired at Deputies During Genesee County Standoff

Stafford, NY – A Town of Stafford man was arrested last night after firing a shot at three Genesee County Sheriff's Deputies during a standoff with police. Nobody was hurt.

The Genesee County Sheriff's Office says 30-year-old Richard Mills of Stafford has been charged with attempted murder of a police officer -- reckless endangerment -- and weapons posession charges. He was arraigned last night in Stafford Town Court and is being held in the Genesee County Jail.

State Police on the Road With Video Gear

Rochester, NY – State Police will have more patrols on the road for the week of Christmas and New Year's -- and more cars with high-tech equipment thanks to funding from Governor Pataki's Traffic Safety Commission.

New York's Commissioner of Motor Vehicles -- Ray Martinez --says the commission will fund extra overtime so more troopers can be on the highways from December 22nd through New Year's day.

Mucci Out As COO Of Frontier Communications

Rochester, NY – Frontier Communications Chief Operating Officer Martin Mucci has resigned. Mucci was with the company for over 20 years. In a prepared statement, Citizens Communications Company, owners of Frontier, said they wished Mucci well in whatever future endeavors he pursues.
Replacing Mucci as COO is Robert Braden, who is currently President of Citizens Communications Electric Lightwave Incorporated. A subsidiary of Citizens Communications. Braden assumes his new duties immediately.
